Sports massage, also known as soft tissue therapy is the professional application of massage therapy by fully qualified massage therapists. It is a general misconception that sports massage is just for sports people. It is the term used to describe professionally trained massage therapists. Other names include sports and remedial massage, soft tissue therapy and massage therapy.

No, in our opinion, sports massage should never be painful. Although, some areas of muscle tension can be uncomfortable. To avoid any unnecessary discomfort, good communication between patient and practitioner is essential. In order to achieve optimal relaxation of muscles, it is important to use just the right amount of pressure.

You should wear whatever you’re most comfortable in. For females, underwear or gym wear such as shorts and vest top is fine. For males, a t-shirt with shorts or boxer shorts is fine. You will be draped in towels during the massage treatment, and only the area being treated will be uncovered.

Our page what to expect covers this topic in detail. It covers everything you can expect from your first and follow up appointments.
